Member Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is PPOplus?

Originally built by leading regional community hospitals in 1988, PPOplus is the region’s premier Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). With over 30,000 established providers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, PPOplus delivers quality healthcare networks and administrative services to self funded employers, third party administrators and insurance carriers. We are dedicated to arranging for the highest quality, most cost effective care available for our members.

  • Does PPOplus replace my current health insurance?

No. PPOplus is not an insurance company. Your health insurance carrier works with PPOplus to give you access to a high quality network of physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers for your healthcare needs. Using a PPOplus provider makes the healthcare services you receive cost less, thus reducing your out-of-pocket expense. At the time of service, you may choose to use, or choose not to use a PPOplus provider. If you select a PPOplus provider there are no special forms to fill out and you may see a specialist at any time.

  • How do I find out if a provider is in the PPOplus network?

Call PPOplus or the provider’s office before you schedule a visit to confirm the provider’s participation in PPOplus. You can also search our online provider directory. Please keep in mind that if a provider participates with PPOplus at one office location, it does not mean that all of his or her office locations also participate with PPOplus. Provider participation may be location specific.

PPOplus’ Customer Service Department always has the most up to date participation information. You can call Customer Service toll free at 1-888-965-1180, Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Central Time.

  • How do I help to get my provider to join PPOplus?

Let your physician know that you use the PPOplus network. Ask if he or she would consider joining. If they are interested, you can contact the Customer Service Department with the physician’s name, address and phone number. Or, you can use the Request A Physician form located on this web site. PPOplus will follow up with your physician and explain the benefits of participation in the PPOplus network.

  • What if I want to use a doctor that is not in the PPOplus network?

You may use any provider inside of the PPOplus network or outside of the PPOplus network, but you have a financial incentive, for example, lower coinsurance payments, to use providers within the PPOplus network. If you would like us to add a doctor to the PPOplus network, please submit the Request A Physician form on this web site or call PPOplus’ Customer Service Department at 1-888-965-1180. We will do our best to add them to the network.

  • What types of physicians belong to PPOplus?

PPOplus carefully screens and selects quality providers. The PPOplus network is a full service network that includes just about every specialty imaginable. You may already be using PPOplus providers and not know it. For a complete listing of PPOplus providers you may go to the Provider Directory section to print a directory on this web site or call PPOplus’ Customer Service Department at 1-888-965-1180.

  • Do I have to go through a "gatekeeper" to receive care?

No, with PPOplus you are free to see any PPOplus provider at any time with no additional paperwork or doctor referrals. Check to make sure that the services you are seeking are covered by your insurance plan before you see the provider.

  • How do I use the PPOplus network?

First, call your insurance carrier or benefit plan administrator to determine your benefit levels for using a PPOplus provider. Then, call the provider’s office to make sure that they are participating in the PPOplus network. Be sure you ask if they are participating in the PPOplus network, not if they accept PPOplus. Next, schedule your appointment. Remember to show your insurance card with the PPOplus logo when you visit the office.
